Jenny McCarthy - Playmate Model and mother

Friday 21 March 2008 @ 9:03 pm

Jenny McCarthy

Irreverent actress and author Jenny McCarthy was born on November 1, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois. Growing up in a Catholic family, Jenny showed a penchant for the spotlight at an early age. She loved hosting neighborhood talent shows and impersonating the priests at her church. Jenny attended Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School where she was MVP of the softball and field hockey teams. She was also captain of the cheerleading squad for a nearby high school. As a teenager, McCarthy worked for seven years at a Polish deli in Chicago, where she would practice signing her autograph on grocery bags. After graduating high school, McCarthy enrolled at Southern Illinois University. She studied to become a nurse, but eventually decided to submit her picture to Playboy in the hopes of earning money for tuition.

In 1993, Playboy accepted Jenny as one of their models and promptly paid her $30,000 for her first photo shoot. Jenny was named Playboy’s Playmate of the Month, then Playmate of the Year, which garnered much media attention. She decided to capitalize on the exposure by making the move to Los Angeles in 1994, where she hosted Playboy’s uncensored music video show Hot Rocks. In 1995, Jenny was chosen to host an MTV dating show called Singled Out. By 1997, she had developed a sketch comedy called The Jenny McCarthy Show. NBC producers liked what they saw, and signed Jenny up for her own short-lived sitcom, Jenny. That same year, McCarthy released her autobiography, Jen-X.

Jenny’s shtick as the blunt, buxom blonde unafraid to poke fun at her quirks was a deliberate attempt to stand out from the crowd in Hollywood. She says, “When I started on Singled Out I thought I’d make a point when that camera came on to do the opposite of what chicks that look like me do. So I started sticking my tongue out, picking my nose and making fun of it all and it seemed to work. So I ran with it.”

In 1999, Jenny married actor and director John Asher. They had one son together, Evan Joseph, born on May 18, 2002. The pair split in 2005, and since then McCarthy has been in a relationship with comedic actor Jim Carrey. McCarthy has previously been involved with her manager, Ray Manzella, and also admitted to having a fling with porn star Jenna Jameson.

In 1999, Jenny starred in the film Diamonds, which was directed by her then-husband, John Mallory Asher. In 2000 she appeared in the movie Scream 3 alongside former Playboy Playmate, Pamela Anderson. Throughout the new millennium, Jenny has guest-starred on such series as Stacked, Charmed, The Drew Carey Show, Fastlane, and Just Shoot Me!.

In 2005, Jenny began hosting E! Channel’s Party at the Palms. The next year, she was “honored” with Razzie Awards for Worst Actress, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Picture for the film Dirty Love, a film in which Jenny wrote and starred in.

In recent years, Jenny has written a series of books on pregnancy and motherhood – Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth About Pregnancy and Childbirth in 2004, Baby Laughs: The Naked Truth About the First Year of Mommyhood in 2005, and Life Laughs: The Naked Truth about Motherhood, Marriage, and Moving On in 2006. She is also a contributing columnist for FHM magazine.

Do you remember Barbi Benton?

Barbi Benton

Iconic Playboy bunny, Barbi Benton was born Barbara Klein on January 28, 1950, in New York City. When she was two years old, Benton’s family moved to Sacramento, California, where her father was stationed as a military doctor. After graduating from Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, Benton headed to Los Angeles to begin a career in modeling.

During her late teens, Benton landed steady work on various television shows, and teamed up with Playboy magnate Hugh Hefner. Soon after she began playing the role of Hefner’s girlfriend on television series, Playboy After Dark, eighteen-year-old Benton found life imitating art when she became involved with Hefner who was forty-two-years-old at the time.

Despite her association with Playboy, and especially its founder, Benton has never actually been featured as a Playmate of the Month centerfold in Playboy magazine, although she has graced the cover and appeared in various pictorials. In 2006, Benton’s life came full-circle when she met Hefner’s three main live-in bunnies during a guest appearance on the Playboy mansion reality-TV-show, The Girls Next Door.

Benton’s relationship with Hefner ended when it became apparent to her that Hefner was not interested in having children. In 1979, Benton married real estate developer, George Gradow, and the couple went on to have two children, Alexander and Ariana, both now in their late teens.

In addition to being Hefner’s main squeeze, Benton was also an actress throughout the 70s, appearing in such films as Deathstalker in 1983, The Naughty Cheerleader in 1970, and Hospital Massacre. On the small screen, Benton appeared regularly in Hee Haw, as well as the comedy series Sugar Time! in the late 70s.

In 1975, Benton released the album Brass Buckles, which landed in the top five on Billboard’s country singles chart. She went on to record seven more albums throughout the decade, which also featured her own song compositions and piano playing. Benton also collaborated with Neil Sedaka, who co-wrote a song on one of her earlier albums.

These days, Benton works as an interior designer, dividing her time between homes in Aspen, Colorado; and Oahu, Hawaii.

Despite being a former bunny, Benton has had some harsh words to say about other animals, once stating, “I believe that mink are raised for being turned into fur coats and if we didn’t wear fur coats those little animals would never have been born. So is it better not to have been born or to have lived for a year or two to have been turned into a fur coat? I don’t know.”

Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker are over - again!

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 3:01 am

Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker

After marrying, splitting, getting back together, and then splitting again, Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler are officially done with each other.
The couple, which was featured in MTV’s Meet the Barkers, is now officially divorced according to papers received by TMZ. Barker, the former drummer for Blink 182 confirmed the rumors.
He told People this past weekend, “I’m no longer with her. We were actually divorced a few days ago.”
The divorce had been filed in August, 2006, but in early ‘07 the couple said they were reconciling. Things looked up for Barker and Moakler until last July when the couple again appeared to be heading toward splitsville. Moakler, a former Miss USA and Playboy model confirmed that they’d separated a second time, telling People, “I think the demise of a marriage is like a death, and there is a mourning that goes with it. It’s devastating.”
The two have been separated ever since, and now each is officially single.
But Barker won’t be able to soon forget about what he had with Moakler (besides two seasons of an MTV reality show). When asked if he’d found love since the divorce, he said, “I have a beautiful daughter at home, a beautiful son at home. That’s where my head is at right now. I don’t have time for anything else.”
He was referring, of course, to Alabama, 2, and Landon, 4, both the drummer’s and the model’s kids.
Moakler has another daughter with boxer Oscar de la Hoya, Atiana, 7.

Girls Next Door featured for the third time!

Monday 4 February 2008 @ 9:51 am

Playboy Magazine Girls Next Door March 2008

Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson — better known as Hugh Hefner’s trio of blonde girlfriends from E!’s “The Girls Next Door” reality series — will appear for the third time on the cover of Playboy.

“It kinda happened by accident,” Hefner told The Associated Press. “It was not the original plan. I knew we were overdue for a cover featuring the girls. For our annual sexiest celebrities list, we always get votes from readers on the Internet of who should be on the top of the list. Lo and behold, as the votes were coming in, we found the girls moving up higher and higher on the list.”

Madison, Marquardt and Wilkinson will be featured together in three different covers for the “25 Sexiest Celebrities” issue. In the newsstand edition cover image, out Feb. 8, the women are clad in glittery lingerie in front of a starry backdrop.
